The first tip I have for couples deciding on the right dress code for their wedding would be organization and collaboration. A tool that could be really helpful to stay organized on your style vision is the app, Notion. One of the tools we provide for our couples is a custom wedding planning template that allows couples to stay organized and have a streamlined way of communicating their wedding vision in order for it to truly come to life. We have a section called Attire Ideas which is broken down for the couple, each event of their wedding, and their guests. It’s a very collaborative tool and can allow you to brainstorm, mood board, and create your style vision in a really organized way. It helps you put your vision on “paper”, rate it, link it, mood board connect, and such a fun tool to help your fashion inspiration develop. This is a great way to discover the right dress code for your wedding. Consider all of the elements and personalization you are incorporating into your day, then include your guests and allow them to finesse.

Give Your Guests the Gift of Clarity
The second tip I have is, keep in mind, people like to know what to expect and what to do. We’ve all been invited to an event where you’re just not sure exactly how to look and what to wear. People appreciate and want to know the dress code, have confidence and reassurance that the information is welcomed by your guests. They want to look, feel, and reflect properly as a guest attending your wedding. Whether your dress code is loose or more intentional with a theme, people love to have a direction.
Let the Details Lead the Way
The third tip I have is maybe a more obvious one. When deciding on the right dress code for your wedding, assess the season, venue, and factors that can heavily impact what your guests will need to be wearing. Once you have all of the elements in place it’s so fun to see how your dress code organically unfolds and self navigates.
How Do You Communicate the Dress Code with Your Guests?
Standardly, communicating your dress code through your invitation and/or wedding website is traditional and at minimum is expected to be in those forms of communication along with all wedding details that need communicated to guests. For this specifically, depending on your dress code and how personalized you want it to look and feel. A beautiful email newsletter from the couple, specifically designed and personalized from the couple would be a really beautiful way to communicate the dress code with their guests. Incorporating a newsletter from the couple could be a really innovative way to reach your guests, get them invested in the vision, and to connect with them leading up to the wedding day. Alongside the newsletter, a blog post or journal post on their website could be incorporated as a bonus reference.
Wedding Dress Code Trends
We are seeing dress codes being more directive. Instead of it being generalized, to “Black Tie” or “Semi-Formal”, or “Casual”—more theme inspired dress codes are being communicated to guests. This is an incredible way to create a buzz with your guests and allow it to be more personalized as a collective for your wedding. It definitely brings an excitement factor as a guest and a vendor!
